Academy News
Swansea FC intends to run 3 x Development Academy squads for its elite players in 2011. The format for the squads is still being determined but will generally involve:
- A 20 player squad for 14 – 16 year old boys and 16 year old girls;
- A 20 player squad for 12 & 13 year old boys and 12 – 14 year old girls; and
- An emerging academy for 9 – 11 year old’s.
We have been fortunate to secure the services of Michael Cossgrove as the Academy Coach for the two senior squads. Michael comes highly recommended. In recent times Michael has:
- Coached U16 and U19 NNSW Futsal teams;
- Convenor and coach for Combined Independent High Schools representative sides at National titles;
- Has run Development Academies for Independent Schools;
- Coached U19 NBN league side; and
- Coached U19 and A grade New FM side.
The Academy is additional training to the regular teams and is optional. The Academy has proven very popular in the past 2 seasons and has been highly sought after. The club will have further information on details and cost by the registration days. Players will be selected during the grading days.
2009 saw the introduction of our Development Academy for 16 selected players from our club to be mentored and developed in their football with specialised training. The Academy was undoubtedly a great success and 2010 sees the Club expand our vision further with running 2 Academies instead of one. Swansea Football Club will be hosting a Boys & Girls Academy for 2010. Each of these Academies consists of 16 selected club players from ages U/11′s to U/14′s . It is with th ehelp of the following sponsors that we are able to have 2 Academies running in 2010. We give thanks to those sponsors: Fox Mining , Freestyle Hair Salon – Swansea, Treasured Moments Photo-Graphics, Newcastle Muffler Service
